It was a rational question so I thought of sharing it with you as well.

A healthy diet not only during the period but throughout is the best way to alleviate PMS symptoms, including depression. Such a diet will include plenty of complex carbohydrates, vitamin B complex rich foods such as whole grains, lean meat, fish, nuts, seed s, lentils and vegetables. Vitamin B6 is particularly linked with easing of PMS symptoms and is found in good amount in fish, poultry, nuts and fortified breakfast cereals. There is also some evidence that a diet rich in essential fatty acids (plant oils, oily fishes), calcium (low fat dairy products, dark leafy green vegetables, white fishes) and magnesium (found in nuts, fruits and green vegetables) can help minimize PMS symptoms, including depression.

Diet will help regulate blood sugar levels and reduce the physical need for comfort foods. To read more on weight gain in PMS You can refer to the following link: http://www.nidsun.com/my-weight-fluctuates-because-of-water-retention-before-every-period-what-can-i-do-about-it/

Weight reduction will help boost your moral many folds. And if the remedies don’t help then it’s a good idea to go to a doctor. Your doctor might suggest to go for contraceptive pills to minimize PMS and depression by resetting hormonal balance.

There are a specific type of fats called CLA, found in meat and dairy products, which trials have shown to effect increase in weight loss over a period of weeks. You do, however need to eat vast quantities of these products in order to get enough CLA, so that nullifies the effect of CLA because overall calories will be to high and your weight will rather increase.

There are studies which show that adequate intake of omega 3 fats may help in fat loss, and we already know that these fats are low in our every day diet, and so getting extra of them will be of benefit to many people, even if the weight loss doesn’t happen. These oils are found in oily fishes, flax-seeds and to smaller extent in pumpkin seeds and plant oils. Fish oil is particularly heart healthy as we all know!

For many people, a trip to the movies isn’t complete without a big tub of buttery popcorn or caramel popcorns and a giant cup of soda. But if you don’t choose carefully, that treat could be scarier than the next blockbuster horror movie! With a little planning, you can still enjoy a yummy snack that doesn’t wreak havoc on your good eating habits and weight goals.

In theory, popcorn should be low in calories and high in fiber—a healthy, whole grain snack. And it is when you air pop your own at home. But everything changes when it’s made at the theater and becomes a greasy and oil-soaked mess covered in artery-clogging and heart blocking butter or margarine.

If you are thinking, just how bad could a tub of popcorn be? On average, a large popcorn serving has a mind-boggling 100 grams of fat—the equivalent of more than 6 full size fast food hamburgers!!!. With about 1,300 calories, that large popcorn packs almost a full day’s supply of calories for the average dieter.

If movie theater popcorn is a must-have, stick with a smallest size serving and forgo the added butter or margarine. Avoid the larger sizes completely, even if it seems like a steal. Moving up to the medium serving from the small size costs only pennies more, but adds about 500 more calories and 3 to 4 days worth of saturated fat. Ouch…did that hurt!

Think you can get away with buying large tub and sharing? Think again. One study conducted at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign found that people who were given a large bucket of popcorn ate 50 percent more than those who were given a medium-sized bag. When asked to estimate how much they had eaten, participants thought they only ate as much as those with a smaller bag. This is one of many studies proving that if there’s food in front of us, we’ll eat it without thinking no matter how big the quantity.

Those giant chocolate bars and boxes of candy at the counter are also bad news. While you might kid yourself into thinking that you won’t eat the whole thing, chances are that once you’re munching away in the dark, you’ll mindlessly consume the entire box without blinking. If you absolutely have to have a treat from the candy counter, choose the smallest sizes. They offer built in portion control and fewer overall calories.

Even a small hot dog has 6 grams of fat and whopping 300 calories!
One way to enjoy at treat at the movies without destroying your waistline is to bring your own snacks from home. Yes, this is discouraged by most theater owners because they make a huge profit at the concession stand. Try taking your own snacks from home and have them imideatly before the movie starts or seek them inside the theater if you are smart enough like me…LOL.

Here are some healthy alternatives you can bring from home to munch on before movie starts or you can buy From Theater:

Bottled water or 100% fruit juice

Diet colas

Nuts and dried fruit

Dry cereal

Air-popped popcorn, flavored with low fat cheese, chili pepper, or garlic powder

Whole grain crackers or rice crackers

Baked potato chips

Bananas, grapes, raisins, or other no-mess fruit

2-3 miniature chocolate bars

The best way to avoid temptation at the theater is to eat a balanced meal beforehand—lean protein, whole grains, veggies and healthy fats will keep you satisfied for several hours. (Sorry, but the concession’s pizza, nachos, big tubs of popcorns, sandwiches and hot dogs don’t fit the bill of a healthy meal.

Going to the movies is a social experience—and that means eating for many people. But you don’t have to miss out on the fun just because you’re watching what your diet. By bringing your own portion-controlled snacks from home or choosing carefully at the candy counter, the only things you’ll be missing are the inches you’ll lose from your waist if you are on NidSun’s therapies.

Green tea is very rich in antioxidants, amino acids and L-theanine, known for reducing stress and anxiety while improving the mood. If consumed on a regular basis, green tea can give a feeling of overall well-being. In addition to elevating mood, L-theanine found in green tea can also increase focus, memory as well as mental alertness

Bananas - Bananas contain high amounts of vitamins and minerals, as well as tryptophan which is known for raising serotonin levels. All the compounds found in bananas are mood-boosting, and vitamin B6 converts tryptophan into serotonin, the mood-lifting hormone. This way, you will not only feel better but you will also get a better night’s sleep. You can easily add a banana to your milkshake or eat them raw – regardless of the form, bananas can and will treat depression if consumed properly.

Berries - Berries are very efficient against depression, as they are full of antioxidants that support the proper functioning of the brain and improve the cognitive function. In addition to this, berries also promote positive energy, they stimulate the production of “feel-good enzymes” in the brain and they can prevent a variety of potentially fatal diseases, such as cancer. High amount of antioxidants in berries also prevent cell oxidation caused by free radicals, and prevent premature aging. In other words, you should replace the traditional popcorn with frozen blueberries when watching TV or when you feel sad – you will not only stay fit in the long run, but you will also feel happier!

Dark Leafy Greens – Consuming dark leafy greens can also treat anxiety and depression due to the high amounts of acid, which elevates low mood and reduces fatigue as well. In addition to folic acid, dark leafy greens like romaine lettuce or spinach which ensure the proper functioning of the nerves and muscles.

Eggs - eggs (especially egg yolk) also come in handy when you try to fight depression and improve your state of mind. Eggs are very rich in Vitamin D, and studies have revealed that Vitamin D can relieve mood disorders because it stimulates the production of serotonin in the brain. Mild depression can be easily treated and prevented by consuming eggs on a regular basis

Walnuts - walnuts are known to improve cell health due to the fact that they are the richest nuts in essential fats. Besides the fact that they elevate mood, 3 to 5 walnuts a day can properly optimize the cell wall composition and lower blood cholesterol levels, which will automatically improve the blood circulation, treat depression and give an overall sense of happiness and well-being.

We are all aware that drinking alcohol isn’t the best thing you can do for your health but if you are super social… we need to be realistic. It’s unrealistic to think you’re going to cut out 100% of fun food and drinks because you are trying to maintain weight But if you are losing weight then please don’t read further. To maintain a healthy weight focus on moderation and control so you won’t derail all your hard work and become overweight. Here’s a caloric breakdown of your favorite drinks to help you pick your poison (ops I mean Alcohol) and stay on track to meet your weight loss goals:

Wine: Each 150ml glass is about 100 calories (except for sherry), this is for both white and red. Red wine is full of heart healthy antioxidants so is a better choice over white. Whichever you choose, we suggest you stick to no more than 1 glass for women to keep your caloric intake low.

Hard Liquor: Higher in calories per 100ml than wine and usually mixed with juice or soda further increasing the calories count. If you must indulge, skip drinks like Mai-Tai’s and Pina Colada, as they contain massive quantities of sugar due to the drink mixes that are used to make them. Instead, opt for calorie free mixers like diet soda or diet tonic water.

Here’s a calorie breakdown per 40ml of hard liquor:

Vermouth-64 calories

Coconut Rum- 77 calories

Gin- 98 calories

Rye Whiskey- 104 calories

Scotch Whiskey - 104 calories

White Rum- 104 calories

Vodka- 104 calories

Cognac - 104 calories

Tequila- 104 calories

Beer: Coming in a close third is beer at about 150 calories per 350 ml servings. Choose a light beer to further decrease calories without sacrificing flavor. Watch your servings though. Beer is hard to measure when pouring from a pitcher into a beer mug. Limit your this frothy beverage to max. 2 drinks while you’re out. Here’s the nutritional info for a variety of beers based on a 350ml serving size:

Light Beer- 108 calories

Draft Beer- 144 calories

Lager- 168 calories

Ale- 216 calories

Liqueur: It has a smooth taste and is usually served with dessert. Many are mixed with coffee, cream, or other mixes that will increase your calorie and fat content. Enjoy in moderation or risk adding hundreds of empty calories you don’t want or need. Here’s a breakdown of calories based on a 150ml serving:

Chocolate Liqueur- 155 calories

Mint Liqueur - 155 calories

Peppermint Liqueur- 155 calories

Strawberry Liqueur- 155 calories

Try making your drinks with fresh squeezed juice instead of store bought juice to avoid the extra sugar.

Whatever you choose, make sure to limit yourself to 1 to 2 drinks if you are intent to keep your waist slim enough. Binging on drinks will certainly make you fat.

Please drink responsibly, don’t drink and drive and take care

No doubt about it, hunger is unpleasant. In fact, it can be downright embarrassing when your tummy grumbles for your attention at the most inappropriate times. When you’re watching your calorie intake to lose or manage your weight, there will be days when you might experience ongoing hunger, even when you’re eating at the top of your calorie range.
We all want Satiety which as you know is that wonderfully pleasant feeling of fullness you get as you eat, when you’re no longer hungry, but aren’t overly stuffed or uncomfortable. You are just satisfied beyond desire. The more satisfied you feel after a meal, the less you’ll eat later. So how do you increase satiety without eating MORE?

When making food choices, it’s still important to meet the nutrition recommendations. But if you’re having problems staying full, adjust your meals and snacks to incorporate these NidSun tips:

DRINK MORE water throughout the day, aiming for about 10 glasses total at least in these hot summer days. Some calorie-free beverages can make good choices, but moderation is important.

EAT MORE lean protein from meats, chicken, seafood, low-fat dairy, legumes, lentils and soy products.

EAT MORE broth-based soups like chicken broth and vegetable broth.

EAT MORE leafy greens like lettuce, baby spinach and mixed salad greens with fat-free dressing.

EAT MORE fruits like apples, blueberries, grapefruit, oranges, peaches and strawberries

EAT MORE non-starchy vegetables like asparagus, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumbers and tomatoes.

Choose nuts like peanuts, almonds, walnuts, cashews and others. Even seeds make good choices.

EAT MORE fiber from whole grains, fruits and vegetables with skins, beans, lentils and legumes. Aim for 25-35 grams each day to help reduce your calorie intake and increase your satiety level.

Secret Tip: Start your meal with a bowl of broth-based soup or low-calorie leafy green salad to fill up on fewer calories. Turn to non-starchy vegetables when you get the snack munchies. Avoid refined carbohydrates (like white bread, white rice, white pasta and sugar). When eaten alone, refined and simple carbohydrates can wreak havoc on satiety by causing rises and falls in blood sugar which trigger hunger every few hours.

Lot of people over eat with nuts as well So we at NidSun advice you to keep your portions in check! One serving of nuts or seeds is about the size of a golf ball and not fistful…mind you…LOL

There is 1 more secret to lose weight: Don’t drink your calories. Calories from beverages add up quickly and affect your weight. Most people don’t pay attention to the number of calories they drink, and that can hurt your weight loss efforts. Limit your intake of caloric beverages to less than 200 calories each day and no more. And the best drink in the world is Water!

Eat Good Live Lite and Be happy :)

And Here is our answer to that:

If you mean a perfect slimming diet, it is the one that gets you slim without pain, keeps you at maintenance weight without pain-and that you like. Of cause that diet will vary from person to person, but various international bodies have decided to pen down, the ideal diet for most of the people is the one that:

Reduces weight at slow or moderate pace.

Is moderately high in carbohydrates and low in fat.

Is low in calorie density and high in bulk- meaning a lot of vegetables, salads and fruits, as well as enough starch and lean proteins.

And a diet that has high degree of compliance ie. You will stick to it.

So a diet that offers high satiety value, presents plenty of food on the plate and is not difficult to follow is a perfect diet. High carbohydrate diet with low fat wins on all counts and it’s a healthy way to eat.

A perfect diet will maintain reasonable weight for a long term. Consult your experts at NidSun to know what kind of diet will be perfect for you.
